Two years ago, New Braunfels dumped Johnson out of the playoffs in a 51-45 thriller.
It looked like Johnson was about to suffer another heartbreak to the Unicorns last Friday as it trailed 31-29 with under a minute to go.
However, Jaguar quarterback Ty Hawkins had some magic up his sleeve. With just 15 seconds left, he stepped up in the pocket and found his running back Bubba Johnson for an improbable 46-yard touchdown that secured a memorable 35-31 victory. It was Johnson’s first playoff win since 2020.
What an UNBELIEVABLE finish between @CTJFootball and New Braunfels!!@TyHawkins2025 heaves one from midfield for @bubbajohnson02…and the Jags retake the lead 36-31 with 15 seconds left!
The two players that connected for Johnson’s final touchdown were the heartbeat of the Jaguar offense all night. Hawkins finished with 190 yards passing and 97 yards rushing, while Johnson had four catches for 51 yards in addition to his 127 yards on the ground.
The Jaguars will need those two to be at their best again in the area round as they’ll face Lake Travis in San Marcos at 7:00 on Friday.
