Buffaloes Herd Around Coach Traylor, Texas Mainstay
Another victory for the UTSA Roadrunners, another impressive coaching performance by coach Jeff Traylor.
Now, the rumor mill has begun circling about a Power 5 school poaching the San Antonio leader. On October 2, Colorado coach Karl Dorrell was fired after a winless 0-5 start on the season.
According to BuffZone.com, the Buffaloes are eyeing coach Traylor, as well as a few other candidates. In his third year leading the Roadrunners, coach Traylor has managed a record of 23-9, including last Saturdays 31-28 triumph over Western Kentucky.
After taking the team to their first Conference USA championship in program history last season, coach Traylor is still looking for UTSA’s first ever elusive bowl victory.
A student athlete at Gilmer, Traylor attended Stephen F. Austin State University after graduation, as a walked on with the Lumberjacks football program. After receiving his diploma, he spent four years as an assistant coach with Big Sandy High School, following a gig in the same position at Jacksonville High School. Coach Traylor’s best run was as Gilmer head coach from 2000 to 2014, where he won three Texas high school football state titles. He also served as assistant coach at Texas and SMU.
A little over a year ago, Traylor inked a $28 million, 10-year contract extension to stay in the Alamo City. Other Texas based coaches in contention include Gary Patterson, Tom Herman, and Jeff Grimes.
