Chad Morris has agreed to a three year contract extension with SMU that goes to 2023, according to Bill Nichols of the Dallas Morning News. The numbers of the extension haven’t been reporter yet but Morris was making $2 million dollars on his current deal.
Morris was reported to be Baylor’s leading candidate to fill the role of current head coach Jim Grobe, who is on a one year contract. Reports were that Morris made a 5-year $24.5 million counter offer to Baylor after the initial Baylor offer.
Morris, an SMU grad himself, just finished his second season at the Hilltop in which he went 5-7, and had two chances to become bowl-eligible but fell short against USF and Navy. He is 7-17 in his two years in charge and has the Mustangs on the up and up, according to most people who have watched the team’s progress over the past two years.
