College Football’s Early Signing Period Will Begin On December 20th

Yesterday, College Football’s early signing period was officially announced, it will begin on December 20th. The old signing period in February will still be around, but the early signing period will be there so players who have been recruited already will have a time that they can lock in their commitments.

The early signing period can only help. Power 5 schools have become notorious for pulling scholarships at the last second when a better recruit decides they want to go to their school, this early period can help them honor their commitments. It’ll also help non-Power 5 schools, the players can commit earlier, meaning less time for Power 5 schools to come in and snatch them away.

It’s going to add a lot more intrigue to the recruiting process, it’ll force schools to keep their commitments, and it’ll definitely help smaller schools. If it works as intended, it’s a sure all-around win for amateur athletics.
