Manning is one of the first to join a staff now led by former Northwest Missouri State head coach Adam Dorrel who spent six season at the helm of the program.
Dorrel went 76-8 as a head coach and won three NCAA Division II Championships and looks to bring a winning tradition to a program that finished 2-9 last season. Abilene Christian transitioned from Division II to FCS in 2012.
The Corsicana High School standout was a second round draft pick of the Bears in 2006 and appeared in all 16 games his rookie year under then head coach Lovie Smith and started in Super Bowl XLI. He also spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals. Manning would go on to have a nine-year career in the NFL.
