El Paso Americas RB Aaron Dumas commits to play for New Mexico

One of El Paso’s finest is headed north after El Paso Americas star Aaron Dumas committed to play for the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday.

Dumas made his commitment official with a simple tweet that included a picture of himself in a red UNM home jersey and silver Lobo helmet with the word “#committed”typed out on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Trail Blazer standout is considered one of the best athlete’s to ever come out of the school that also former Lobo Q’ Drennan. Americas has had a successful run of running backs in the last decade that also includes the Fields brothers Jack, a former Boise State Bronco, and current UTEP senior Joshua.

Dumas helped Americas to the best season in school history in 2019 and earned a spot on the Texas Associated Press All-State First Team.

He rushed for 3,184 yards and 36 touchdowns while helping Americas win it’s first outright district title and finish the year with a 10-2 record. After winning the District 1-6A championship, the Trail Blazers downed Wolfforth Frenship in the Region I-6A, Division II bi-district playoffs.

Dumas also included recent UNM commits Alec Marenco (El Paso Burges) and Joshua Atkins (Mansfield TImberview) in his tweet.

UNM had its struggles in 2019 going 2-10 and Dumas may walk into a young Lobo running back room in 2021. The Lobos have eight running backs listed on their current roster with the oldest being a redshirt junior.
