Ryan Gosling may have time for the Notebook II next spring

Coach Kliff “I’m Gosling” Kingsbury may be on the hot seat after a lousy showing against Western Virginia, losing 48-17. Notorious for his offensive intelligence, his genius was tested after the Red Raiders snapped their streak of at least 25 points in each of the last 21 games dating back to 2014.

Coach Kingsbury used the podium in the postgame press conference as a way to publicly apologize to everyone — a soap box he will likely straddle and beg forgiveness on next week when his team likely falls to No. 19 Oklahoma. With all the publicity that the Longhorns hapless defense is receiving in the Big 12 — prompting coach Charlie Strong to take over the play-calling — it’s incredible that Tech DC David Gibbs hasn’t been drug out of Lubbock, his unit unable to stop the angry mob of fans like they’re incapable of slowing any offense.

The Red Raiders are fourth worst in points allowed, sacrificing 40.2 this season — a number unlikely to lower any time soon.

Is their third year coach that clueless with what’s going on the other side of the ball? How is Coach Gibbs allowed anywhere near Jones AT&T Stadium after two years averaging 40.9 points per game allowed? The rest of the season will be very telling for coach Kingsbury, who is dead even at .500 in three seasons.

Pucker up Houston, coach Herman has been bitten by the love bug

Before games, Coach Tom Herman kisses his players on the cheek, foregoing an encouraging pat on the behind for something a little more affectionate. The second year coach claims that showing love for his unit is more important than instilling fear in them — positive reinforcement before the brutal contact of lengthy games.

The ceremonious cheek kisses have been linked to the Cougar’s winning ways, including a tough victory against Tulsa 38-31 Saturday. Its seems to be working; last season, Houston finished with a 13-1 record and ranked eighth nationally — their highest since 1980 —and currently come in at No. 11, eager for inclusion in potential Big 12 expansion.

Coach Herman also has a grill:

I support any tradition that gets a team in some kind of winning mentality. As long as they’re not wearing opposing programs shirts, like Trevor “Judas” Knight:

The attention of the college football community will be focused solely on Alabama v. A&M next week — a heavyweight slugfest that’s been padded with soft blows and combinations since Johnny Manziel split the series in 2012-2013. Now that both programs are in the top-10 ranking, there is some curiosity how both will respond to each other.

Will the Crimson Tide be exploited for having the relatively easier schedule? Will A&M prove their experience against their toughest test so far? Will Coach Sumlin wilt against legendary Coach Saban and have his Aggies start dropping games like he usually does around this time of year?

Heading into Saturday, ‘Bama holds the edge on both points per game (45.4-40.2) and points allowed per game (15-19.2). The Aggies have the edge in total yards (532.8-504.7), but are seriously outmanned on defense (437.5-247 yards allowed).

After Alabama butchered No. 9 Tennessee Saturday, it seems that Saban and co. have the advantage, especially since A&M struggled against the same Vols last week. However, an underdog win by the Aggies would propel College Station to the top of the AP Top-25 rankings.
