Former Arlington Lamar Star Leading SMU into the Top 10

Buechele leads SMU to OT win at Tulane

The level of competition may have been different, but SMU quarterback still excelled under the Friday Night Lights.

Buechele threw for 384 yards and two touchdowns to help the Mustangs to a 37-34 overtime win at Tulane. The win over Tulane (2-3, 0-3 American Athletic Conference) helped SMU (5-0, 2-0) move up one spot in the latest Associated Press College Football Poll to No. 16.

The former Arlington Lamar star completed 23 of 37 passes and helped line up the winning 34-yard field goal by Chris Naggar (Arlington).

The Mustangs started their offensive drive in overtime after Brandon Crowley (Dallas Little Elm) came up with an interception on Tulane’s possession.

Buechele threw for more than 6,000 yards and 73 touchdowns in high school and was a two-time Associated Press Class 6A All-State selection

SMU hosts No. 9 Cincinnati (3-0, 1-0) at 8 p.m. on Saturday on ESPN2.
