The Houston Cougars are setback by yet another injury. Former Manvel star D’Eriq King has re-injured his knee and his status for Saturday’s game in Tucson against the Arizona Wildcats is now uncertain. Head coach Major Applewhite made the announcement Wednesday.

Appearing in 10 games last season, King was mainly used at wide receiver. However, his presence was felt all throughout the field as he returned a touchdown on kickoff and threw for score as well. Early on in camp, Applewhite made it clear that the quarterback competition was wide open—meaning that King, an unlikely choice to start but a great athlete, would likely be used as play-caller in certain scenarios during the season.
This is certainly frustrating for King, who was looking to make a remarkable sophomore year campaign, as he recovered from a torn meniscus that occurred off the field last year.
The Houston Cougars will face off against the Arizona Wildcats this Saturday in Tucson at 9:30 PM CST. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
