Huntsville Athlete T’Vondre Sweat Declares For NFL Draft
T’Vondre Sweat has played for the Burnt Orange for the last time. After losing in the Sugar Bowl, the former Huntsville standout and 2023 Outland Trophy recipient announced he will go pro.
“longhorn nation I love y’all it’s been a great journey… now time for the next chapter of my life,” Sweat tweeted on X.
The Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year posted 42 total tackles, two sacks and five passes defended during the regular season. Sweat led a defense that allowed only 80.9 rushing yards per game, the fourth-best nationally. He was also a standout in the Big 12 Championship, nabbing a two-yard score in the Longhorns 49-21 victory over Oklahoma State Cowboys. In total, in his five-year tenure at Texas, Sweat tallied 127 total tackles, five sacks, 15 passes defended, and one forced fumble.
With Huntsville, Sweat was an all-state and all-district defensive lineman who earned District MVP honors in 2018. During his senior season, he was part of a stout defensive unit that allowed a mere 13.1 points per game, including three shutouts.
He will be the first Huntsville player in the NFL since Nicholas Morrow was picked up as an undrafted prospect in 2017. Sweat is projected to be drafted late in the first round.
