Even though Texas Tech lost, Kliff Kingsbury answered some of his doubters

For the past weeks, the knock on Kliff Kingsbury is his apparent inability to make game time adjustments. Texas Tech would routinely start games off fast, only to sputter in the second and third quarters once defenses adjusted to their style of play.

Kingsbury started off slow today, then made adjustments to start scoring points. He called a perfect onside kick early in the game. He called a perfect fake punt. He switched around to a version of the running game that worked with Tech’s troubled offensive line. He helped keep the team in the game with his leadership, and that deserves to be recognized, even in a loss.

Texas Tech’s defense is a work in progress, but it’s slowly improving

They made some crucial stops and turnovers once they got settled in. Players like Jordyn Brooks and Breiden Fehoko are good, but young. It’s telling that the best players on that woeful defense are freshmen and sophomores.

Patrick Mahomes is unbelievable

He converted a pass with his left hand while going down. He is right handed. He converted two passes across his body. He’s clearly not 100%, but continued to run the football exceptionally.

He does everything that can be asked of him and more. He’s a dominant player, and he’s easily one of, if not the, best quarterbacks in the nation. If you haven’t been blessed enough to see him yet, check him out. He’s worth the price of admission.

James Washington is outstanding as well

The difference maker for the Cowboys put on a show tonight, catching an 82 yard touchdown to stymie a Texas Tech rally, drawing a significant amount of coverage the entire night as well. Washington is an absolute problem for defenses, and he’s not going away.

It’s a long road ahead for Texas Tech, but this was the most difficult of the three games left on their schedule

Now, Texas Tech has to win out to make a bowl. They have 2-8 Iowa State left on the schedule, as well as a struggling Baylor team. This team was the most difficult one one they’ll face, and they looked good in a loss on the road.
