Jared Sackett, A USA Today Freshman All-American

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA has placed one freshman on the USA Today All-American freshman team, Jared Sackett. The freshman kicker didn’t even play in the first game against Baylor.

The kicker had a record-breaking season in San Antonio, hitting 19-of-22 field goal attempts in his first year.

Sackett was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award. He did not miss in his first eight kicks and hit 3-for-3 in three different games in 2017.

He landed on the All-Conference USA and the conferences all-freshman team. He won the Special Teams Player of the Week award after scoring all nine Roadrunner points in a 9-7 win over Marshall.

The Timber Creek product was third in the FBS with 1.9 field goals a game and 13th nationally with a 86.4 make percentage.

Another Roadrunner made a freshman All-American team in 2016,Josiah Tauaefa.

There was one more Texas school with a freshman All-American, Texas Tech. Jack Anderson was honored with the award after starting every game for the Red Raiders.
