Mayfield won with 86 percent of the vote, which is the third most all-time. He’s the first former Texas high school football star to win the Heisman since Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel (Kerrville Tivy) won back in 2012.
After winning big at the College Football Awards earlier this week, Mayfield is now recognized as the nation’s best player.
Mayfield will now look ahead to face the Georgia Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl as part of the college football playoff on January 1 in Pasadena, California.
