Lincoln Riley’s tenure as the Oklahoma Sooners head coach is still just under three weeks young, but on Sunday evening, he picked up his sixth commitment since taking over in place of Bob Stoops with a pledge from Brenham wide receiver Treveon Johnson.

A three-star prospect formerly of Giddings High School, where he hauled in 30 receiving yards and three touchdowns along with 29 tackles and two interceptions as a cornerback, Johnson sided with Oklahoma over offers from Texas Tech, Houston, TCU, UTSA, Minnesota, Oregon State, Louisiana Tech and Houston Baptist. Up until May 5, Johnson was committed to the Red Raiders before backing out of his pledge amid an intensified pursuit from the Sooners. Johnson then visited Norman on June 19, and it’s been reported that his decision was then made to commit, although he didn’t publicly announce his pledge to Oklahoma until Sunday evening.

As noted, Johnson’s pledge now gives Riley, the Sooners sudden first-year head coach, his sixth commitment in short order, with all six pledges under Riley as follows:

  • Ron Tatum – 4-star SDE – Putnam City (Okla.)
  • Tramonda Moore – 4-star OT – JUCO
  • Tavion Thomas – 3-star RB – Dayton Dunbar (Oh.)
  • Kundarrius Taylor – 3-star ATH – Memphis Ridgeway (Tenn.)
  • Treveon Johnson – 3-star WR – Brenham
  • Austin Stogner – 4-star TE – Prestonwood Christian – 2019

With Johnson becoming the latest in the Sooners’ surge of commitments, he lifts Oklahoma’s 2018 class to No. 10 nationally and No. 2 in the Big 12, trailing just Tom Herman and Texas. He’s also commit No. 13 overall for Oklahoma this cycle and the fourth addition from The Lone Star State, along with Waco Midway quarterback Tanner Mordecai, Cy Falls cornerback Starrland Baldwin and Lancaster cornerback Jordon Austin.

At 6’1, 179 pounds, Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 656 player, No. 108 wide receiver and the No. 83 player in Texas, per 247Sports Composite.
