Texas Tech added another East Texas standout to its 2018 class on Monday afternoon, adding a commitment from Texarkana Pleasant Grove linebacker Xavier Benson.

The three-star linebacker (247 Sports) chose the Red Raiders over Arkansas State and SMU among more than 20 other offers. He becomes Commit No. 16 in the Class of 2018 for Kliff Kingsbury and Texas Tech.
Benson was a standout on defense for the Hawks in 2016, garnering a first team all-district selection for his play. He’ll be a star to watch for on the defensive side of the ball after the Hawks finished 6-7 in 2016 and advanced to the regional semifinals in the Class 4A Division II playoffs.
The Hawks open their 2017 season against Arkansas High on September 1.
