Regional Semifinals 6A Team of the Week: Cedar Hill
6A Team of the Week: Cedar Hill Longhorns
It would have been hard to imagine Cedar Hill as a 2023 regional finalist after the Longhorns finished 2-8 a year ago.
However, after a 28-7 win over Tomball last Friday, the Longhorns are off to the fourth round of playoffs for the first time since their 2020 state title game appearance. It’s a testament to the rebound the program has experienced under first-year head coach Nick Ward.
On Friday, it was a combination of its run game and defense that did the trick. Dayshun Reese-Williams rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown, while Cededrick Castleberry finished with 118 yards and two touchdowns on just two carries. Meanwhile, the Longhorn defense held Tomball to just 230 total yards.

After a 5-5 regular season, Cedar Hill appears to be peaking at the right time.
How much it has improved will be put to the test this week when it faces DeSoto in the 6A Division II Region II final. The Longhorns fell 35-12 to the Eagles in the regular season, so they will need to put together another complete game if they want to pull the upset on Friday night.
