Texas A&M Excludes Depth Chart From SEC Media Guide For First Time Under Kevin Sumlin

SEC media days gets underway this week and a notable exclusion from the Texas A&M Aggies 2017 media guide is the depth chart, or lack thereof.

As first noted by Ben Baby of the Dallas Morning News, for the first time in Kevin Sumlin’s five-year tenure at Texas A&M, the Aggies didn’t include a depth chart in the media guide, which may or may not be a big deal depending on which end of the spectrum you look at this from.

On one hand, after three consecutive eight-win seasons and entering a year in which the expectation is improvement, withholding the depth chart from the 2017 media guide could be strategic and Sumlin’s attempt at remaining as difficult to figure out as possible entering the season.

On the other hand, the Texas A&M staff may be unsure of its two-deep to date, although at least 12 of those spots should already be filled with five returning starters on offense and seven on defense.

The latter is seemingly a bit more concerning, as one would expect the staff to have a fairly decent idea of its current depth situation with fall camp approaching.

With the Texas A&M portion of the SEC media days schedule slated for Wednesday between 10:00 a.m — 4:00 p.m. on SEC Network, there’s good reason to believe Sumlin will be presented with some questions regarding his decision to exclude a depth chart for the first time since arriving in College Station.

Joining Sumlin in Hoover (Ala.) will be junior wide receiver Christian Kirk, junior offensive lineman Koda Martin and senior defensive back Armani Watts.
