The Game. That’s what Ohio State vs Michigan is known as. One of if not the best rivalry in college football takes place Saturday with a shot at a spot in the College Football Playoff on the line. Former Texas high school players will play an important role in the game so let’s take a look at who they are.
Ohio State
QB J.T Barrett, Wichita Falls Rider– The third year starter at the quarterback is the engine that keeps the Buckeye offense running. He is 24-3 as a starter and this year he leads the Big Ten with 23 touchdowns passes and a passer rating of 151.8. His veteran leadership has steadied a young Buckeye team early in the season with his steady play. Barrett will be the center of attention Saturday in Columbus and the result on the game could rest on his shoulders.
OL Demetrius Knox, All Saints Episcopal– Mostly a special teamer, Knox played in a season high 15 snaps against Rutgers earlier this season. The highly sought after guard, could see playing time if one of the lineman goes down to injury. Ohio State is the only team in the country to have the same offensive line combination all season so it’s been hard for Knox to break into that unit.
WR Dontre Wilson, DeSoto– Wilson has battled injuries this year but he should be back for Saturday which will be his final game in Ohio Stadium. The Senior on the season has 16 carried for 83 yards and a touchdown, but is more of a weapon in the receiving game, recording 26 receptions to go along with 343 yards, both third best on the team with five touchdowns. Wilson can be an X-factor for the Buckeyes with his ability to make people miss in open spaces.
Ohio State also has three Texans making official recruiting visits on Saturday, No. 3 prospect overall Marvin Wilson, Episcopal five-star defensive lineman, no. 7 overall prospect Jeffery Okudah five-star corner back from Grand Prairie, and No. 9 overall prospect Baron Browning a five-star linebacker from Kennedale.
Michigan- The Wolverines don’t have a single player from Texas on their roster. Of their 20 hard commits in the 2017 class, they don’t have a single player hailing from Texas.
If you are a fan of Texas high school football, it’s pretty clear that you should be rooting for the team that has roots in Texas, the Scarlet and Gray.
