Aggies are fantastic at many things, but in two things in particular they really stand out – winning Internet polls and raising money. According to a USA Today report, Texas A&M was the top revenue earner for the 2015-2016 season, and they were followed up by Texas.
A&M gained 194 million, and the Longhorns pulled down 187 million. In third place was Ohio State, who trailed the Longhorns by a cool 17 million.
It shouldn’t be a massive shock to anyone, even when their teams shoot well under par, Texas and Texas A&M are still national brands due to history and sheer passion in the two fanbases. The Aggies seemed to have returned to national prominence during the Johnny Manziel years, but a regression to the mean quickly followed. The Longhorns have fallen on even harder times, the program that won a national title in 2006 and played for another in 2010. Texas did not make a bowl as recently as 2015.
Texas will be playing with insurance this year, first year head coach Tom Herman will undoubtedly get some time to find the squeaky wheel that needs the grease. Kevin Sumlin might not have as much time, the Aggies consistently pull in stellar recruiting classes that underperform majorly according to multiple national analysts and their fanbases.
