UTSA Vet Brenden Brady Continues His Run
Former Cibolo Steele running back Brenden Brady has been on Texas HS Football’s radar for a while. After all, in his senior year with the Knights, we had a sit-down interview with Brady about his upcoming college career. You can find that interview here.
Now in his final stretch with UTSA, Brady is still making his moments count. The UTSA senior accounted for 112 yards and two touchdowns in the Roadrunners back-and-forth 31-27 victory over UNT. It was Brady’s second career 100-yard game.
“Brenden Brady, best game he’s played,” coach Jeff Traylor said, earning his 200th career coaching victory with the win.
Despite Brady contributing heavily to the Roadrunners offensive success — Brady leads the team in rushing touchdowns and scores — he nearly didn’t use his fifth year of eligibility. Alongside two former teammates, he runs a power-washing business in San Antonio. What convinced his return was Jeff Taylor visiting his alma mater Cibolo Steele on a recruitment visit. It’s where Brady’s mom still works, and a program where Brady had 3,903 yards and 49 touchdowns in his high school career.
As per Spectrum, Brady returned with a new perspective: “It shouldn’t have been about me. I felt kind of selfish giving up on my teammates like that, knowing I had more time to give them.”
Fresh off their C-USA championship victory, this year could grant Brady something that’s eluded him so far: a bowl victory. Not just for him, but for the school as well. For the second year in school history, UTSA is knocking on the door of a top 25 ranking. They are now also bowl-eligible for the second consecutive season.
