Taylor and Burnet had to wait two extra hours for their all-important 13-4A Division I showdown last Friday as storms rolled through Central Texas.
But as the game finally got underway at 9:30, Taylor’s performance was well worth the wait for its home fans.
With the Ducks holding a narrow 20-18 lead late in the second quarter, Andrias Fisher attempted to blow the game open with touchdown runs of 36 and 44 yards on either side of halftime.
And even though Burnet came roaring back with three touchdown runs by Dash Denton, it wasn’t enough as Taylor recovered a late onside kick to seal a 41-40 victory.
The Ducks finished with 337 rushing yards on the night as Fisher rushed for 138 yards, junior Jackson Meller added 90 yards on the ground, and Jarvis Anderson finished with 42 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
After winning just three games total the past three seasons, the Ducks are now playoff bound for the first time since 2018 after finishing the regular season 5-5.
