Week Eight 5A Team of the Week: Cedar Park
5A Team of the Week: Cedar Park Timberwolves
Cedar Park hasn’t missed the playoffs since 2007.
However, the Timberwolves faced a pivotal game last Friday against Pflugerville Hendrickson in which the winner would move up to fourth in the district.
It took 48 minutes and then some for Cedar Park to secure the victory. The game headed to overtime tied at 39.
After Cedar Park scored on the first possession of overtime, Hendrickson answered with a touchdown of its own. But instead of kicking the extra point to tie it, the Hawks decided to go for two. Hendrickson running back Carson Workman took the handoff and tried to break into the end zone, but he ran into a brick wall of Cedar Park defenders. The stop earned Cedar Park a memorable 46-45 victory.

And while the defense will earn the headlines for its denial on the goal line, sophomore running back Trae Hill may be the biggest reason for the Timberwolves’ win. He rushed for 216 yards and five touchdowns on 33 carries. Quarterback Ayden Arp also contributed with 137 passing yards as well as 23 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown.
Now sitting at 2-2 in district play, the Timberwolves are alone in fourth in the district. That means they controls their own destiny in the race for the playoffs in District 11-5A Division I. They have another big game against Leander Glenn this upcoming Friday as the Grizzlies sit just a game beneath them at 1-3.
