Why Texas HS Football Players Love Football

We have been publishing Player Spotlights this offseason. In each, we ask the players, “why do you love football?” Here are a few of the answers:

Why Do You Love Football?

Aiden Meeks: Rockwall High School

“I love football because I like the competition, the attention, the glory, hearing the crowd cheer, the victory! I push myself every day to achieve my goals because I love football. I love this game!”

Cole WatsonWaskom High School

Since I was a little boy I’ve always been around it.  I spent a lot of time in the fieldhouse as a kid because my dad coaches.  I always looked up to the guys he coached and always wanted to be like them one day. I remember playing football in my neighbor’s yard in elementary school with my friends. I was always the “all-time quarterback.” Then when I started playing in 4th grade it was just like something really clicked.  The feeling I get on Friday nights when I’m on the field is like no other.  Just being around my teammates and working to get a win every week is something really special.”

Jaylan Beckley: Trinity Christian Academy

“Because it’s the one place I get to fully let loose, physically and leave it all out there. In every other aspect of life, particularly other sports, I have to be careful so that I don’t hurt somebody due to my size. But in football it’s the opposite, I get to use the body that God gifted me to its fullest extent.”

Jeremy Payne: Hightower High School

I love playing with my team and the competitiveness of the game.”

Zachary Erickson: Belton High School

My love for the sport has come from not only me getting the chance to go out and compete every Friday night, but being beside my teammates whom I consider family. I love those guys and would do anything for them and without football, I wouldn’t have the same connection I have with them now.”

Riley Van Poppel: Argyle High School

I love football because it’s a way I can express myself on the field. And I also just love the grind and work ethic it takes to have success. I think that it’s not for everyone and it’s a game that proves your character. I also know how blessed I am with my skills and to be in my position so I want to play because of what my parents have done for me and what God has blessed me with. “

Chase CanadaFoster High School

I love football because I am free at what I do. This game is truly an art and is why I chose the position CB. Football is the ultimate team sport so to go out with my brothers and physically pound the other team for an hour and not get in trouble is something to look for. The art is playing CB. When you tend to play WR or offense it is a blame game of who didn’t block or bad pass. But when you are at the corner and your 1on1 on that island it’s me vs you and may the best man win.”

McCoy CaseyCrosby High School

My whole family has always played and loved football, so as a kid it became part of me, and still is now.”

Jesse Medina: Buda Johnson High School

I love playing football because I have been playing since I was little and my love for the game has grown over the years. Being able to play with all my friends and having an opportunity to earn a free education, is a dream come true.”

Wyatt Smith: Pilot Point High School

My love for the game of football cannot even be put into words but in a short description, I love the game because of the person it has made me today. I have strived every day to become the best football player I can be. It has taught me how to become a leader embrace challenges and stay dedicated to my passion. I love the bond I build with my teammates year in and year out it is truly a bond that can never be broken.”
