5A Team of the Week: Crockett Cougars
Austin Crockett has turned a corner under the leadership of head coach Darrick Norton having made the playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time since 2012-13.
And last Friday, the Cougars made some more history.
Quarterback Cameron Dickey scored the game-winning rushing touchdown with just over two minutes to go as the Cougars knocked off Waco University 14-13. It was the program’s first playoff win since 1997 and only its second playoff win overall.

In a game where offense was hard to come by, Dickey, a Texas Tech commit, did just enough for the Cougars. He threw for 50 yards, but most importantly, he rushed for 117 yards on 20 carries.
Defensively, he had 13 total tackles and two interceptions, including a pick-six in the first quarter. His brother Caleb pitched in with 12 total tackles, while Cesar Romeo Perez finished with 16.
If Crockett wants to advance past the second round of playoffs for the first time in school history, it will take a monumental upset. The Cougars will battle the number one team in all of 5A Division II, Montgomery Lake Creek, on Friday in Giddings.
