1A Six Man
Area Round Six-Man Team of the Week: Miami
Six-Man Team of the Week: Miami Warriors
It went down to the wire, but Miami made some school history last Friday.
With just 20 seconds left in its area round showdown against Springlake-Earth, quarterback Haiden Thompson dumped off a pass to Luke Wheeler, who barreled into the end zone over a Wolverine for what would be the game-winning touchdown. With the 42-34 win, Miami is now 12-0 for the first time in school history.
Thompson continued the impressive career he has had at Miami with 264 passing yards and six touchdowns along with another 100 yards on the ground. It was fitting that it was Wheeler who scored the game-winning touchdown as he was Thompson’s go-to weapon on the night. He caught seven passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 94 yards. Micah Hinshaw also caught three passes for 99 yards. Incredibly, all three went for touchdowns.
Defensively, it was also Thompson and Wheeler making plays all over the field. Thompson had 21 total tackles, while Wheeler racked up 13.
Miami will need that duo to be at their best again this week as the Warriors face Happy in the 1A Division I Region I championship on Friday at 6:30 in Panhandle.
