Baylor University strength coach Brandon Washington was arrested early Saturday morning in a prostitution sting. Per the Waco Tribune, authorities busted Washington at a local hotel past midnight, intercepting him as we went to meet the prostitute. After the arrest, Baylor immediately fired Washington and released the following statement.
“After a full criminal background check was completed and cleared, Brandon Washington was recently hired as an assistant in the Football Strength and Conditioning area. Baylor was notified on February 4 of Brandon Washington’s arrest and terminated his employment immediately that day.”
Washington was a recent hire of head coach Matt Rhule’s staff at Temple and came to Waco last December. Any mention of Washington has also been scrubbed from the Baylor athletics website as of Tuesday morning.
The arrest follows a year and a half of controversy that has shrouded Baylor in claims of sexual assault and misconduct; 2017 hasn’t alleviated the Bears controversy as the school and athletic department are attempting to turn over a new leaf.
After Rhule and his staff accumulated an impressive recruiting turnaround and also worked to begin to clean up the athletic department’s image, the Bears past once again interfered with their present.
Following Washington’s arrest and subsequent firing, He released a statement about the recent arrest to the Waco Tribune:
“When we arrived at Baylor, we made a commitment to character and integrity in our program,” Rhule said. “Brandon’s actions are completely unacceptable. We will not tolerate conduct that is contradictory to these values.
