Monday was the start of the 2016-2017 season for the remaining football teams that did not start practice last week.

With soaring temperatures all over the state of Texas many young athletes began the sweat induced journey towards hoisting a state trophy in December. Big name teams such as The Woodlands, College Park, Cedar Hill, Allen, DeSoto, Plano East, Highland Park and Southlake Carroll commenced their first round of practices.

The first couple of days will be used for conditioning and position drills until the pads come on later in the week. Many of the coaches and players anxiously await this day to begin their respective quests, whether it be repeating as champions, avenging a heartbreaking loss or making the playoffs.

Some teams started early in the mornings while others practiced midday as the sun bared down on them. While the temperatures may not see a decline for the time being, at least we can say football in Texas is back.

Here is a look at the mentioned team’s first opponents:

The Woodlands vs. Cy-Fair
College Park vs. Pasadena Memorial
Cedar Hill vs Bishop Gorman (Nevada) at Longhorn Stadium
Hoover (Alabama) vs Allen
Dallas Jesuit vs DeSoto
Plano East vs Duncanville
Rockwall vs Highland Park
Union (Oklahoma) vs Southlake Carroll
