After seven straight offensive possessions ending in a score, Lake Travis weren’t ever in danger against San Antonio Johnson, winning 55-27 in an area playoff game last Friday night at Rattler Stadium.
The victory was LT’s fourth straight win.
By halftime, the Cavaliers had already amassed a 34-0 lead.
Credit the blowout to running back Vann Hopping. The senior rushed for touchdowns of 31 and 39 yards through three minutes in the first quarter, as well as catching a lob touchdown pass with 10 seconds left of the half.
In total, Hopping scrambled for a game-high 188 yards on 16 carries for three touchdowns. For the season, he has amassed 1,301 yards and 24 rushing scores.
“I would say the majority of the credit goes to our O-line,” Hopping told the Austin American-Statesman. “I’m just doing my job and they’re out there fighting and opening gaps. I’m just running right through them.”
In the second half, coach Hank Carter substituted players at will, allowing second-team players a chance to see the field.
In total, the Cavaliers also got touchdown runs from backup quarterback Noah Hopkins and running back Wesley Glass, a scoring catch by wide receiver Gavin Linder, and two successful field goal kicks by Braydon Doane.
Lake Travis advances to the third round and will play San Antonio East Central at 1 p.m. on Friday in Seguin. Following the contest, they will very likely meet against Westlake in two weeks.
