While most of the country was watching the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson snooze fest buffering on Netflix, us locals were locked into the first round of the Texas high school football bi-district playoffs.
The results of Lake Travis vs. Round Rock were just as lopsided as the Netflix fight. The Cavs came out swinging, outmatching the Dragons 41-14 on Friday night at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
Neck-and-neck in the first quarter, LT broke the scoreboard in the second. A 66-yard catch-and-run touchdown spearheaded an offensive onslaught of 31 straight points. A pick six for 55 yards by defensive back Aiden Archer gave the Cavaliers a 24-7 lead at halftime.
The team racked up 486 yards of total offense, including 300 yards receiving and 186 yards rushing. Quarterback Chaston Ditta led the unit, throwing for 300 yards and three touchdowns, including a rushing score. Wide receiver Josiah Thomas served as his favorite target, seizing 10 catches for 219 yards and three touchdowns.
The defense was dominate, limiting the Round Rock offense to 78 yards of total offense–half of which came from a late touchdown in the final offensive play of the contest. Gus Cordova was a highlight, managing three sacks and two pass deflections.
Lake Travis will face San Antonio Johnson in the area round next Friday at Rattler Stadium in San Marcos. LT last played Johnson in a neutral playoff game on November 17 of last year, defeating the Jaguars 48-21.
