5A Team of the Week: Brownsville Veterans Memorial Chargers
It seemed like it was going to be hard to stop PSJA North from securing its first-ever regional title this year. Not only were the Raiders 12-0, but they had given up just 52 total points in those 12 games.
Enter Brownsville Veterans Memorial.
The Chargers didn’t just defeat PSJA North, they beat up on them. At one point in the fourth quarter, it was 45-14 before PSJA North added two late scores to get to the 45-28 final.
Senior Gilbert Trillo did it all for the Chargers. He caught two passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns, rushed 10 times for 33 yards and two touchdowns, and had an interception defensively. Running back Alvin Trevillion also had a busy day, rushing for 115 yards on 22 carries.
