When Matt Rhule was introduced as the new head coach of Baylor on Wednesday, he emphasized the importance of Texas high school football coaches. He hit the ground running on Friday when San Antonio Reagan head coach David Wetzel was named as the latest addition to Rhule’s staff.
Per ESPN 1660, Wetzel informed his team and his coaching staff of the decision on Friday morning.
He is also a former Baylor wide receiver, having played under Grant Teaff from 1987-1991. Wetzel is also the current president of the Texas High School Football Coaches Association.
Wetzel had been the coach of the Rattler since 2004 and had made five trips to the regional finals during his tenure as head coach. He leaves the school with a 115-42 record.
