FORT WORTH — Per a Tuesday press release from Texas Christian University, the Horned Frog  scheduled Sept. 8 football game against Southern Methodist University at Gerald Ford Stadium has been moved to Sept. 7.

The announcement moves the matchup from Saturday to Friday night. The release also stated the kickoff time and TV network will be announced later.

According to further information gathered from TCU Athletics, the change is due to television time allotment. It’s also a similar to situations that caused day swaps in both 2010 and 2016.The Horned Frogs will face SMU on a Friday night for the third time in their last five trips to Dallas.

TCU won 41-24 in 2010 and 33-3 in 2016, both on Friday evenings.

The Horned Frogs return 11 starters — including Big 12 Conference Co-Freshman of the Year Jalen Reagor and six players on defense — next season. They will open their 2018 campaign with a Sept. 1 home game against Southern University.

After facing SMU, the Horned Frogs will play Ohio State Sept. 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. That matchup — depending on how the Buckeyes’ roster shakes out before the season opener — a matchup of former Texas quarterbacks and former state champions.

DeSoto’s Shawn Robinson and Lake Travis’ Matthew Baldwin.

Robinson led the Eagles to a Class 6A Division I title during the 2017-17 season. Baldwin led the Cavaliers to a Class 6A Division I title the same year. Despite their graduation’s being separated by a mere two years and playing in the same UIL classification, a meeting in Dallas would be the first time the Lone Star State alumni would meet each other in the football field.

TCU is one of just five programs nationally to finish in the top 10 in at least three of the last four years (2014, 2015, 2017). In 17 seasons under head coach Gary Patterson, TCU has posted seven top-10 finishes and 11 in the top 25.

In 2017, TCU reached the 11-win mark for the ninth time in the last 13 seasons and 10th time in 15 years.
