It has been an up-and-down season for the Medina Bobcats. After finishing 1-5 in non-district, the Bobcats split their opening two district games.
That meant they desperately needed a win against a 5-2 Eden team last Friday to stay in the playoff race.
The Bobcats delivered. Quarterback Davis Peterson threw for 265 yards and five touchdowns as Medina edged Eden in a 47-43 thriller.
“We played great defense and were very focused throughout the game,” Medina head coach Mark Coley said. “We will have to play with the same intensity next week.”
Sophomore Zy’Heme Jones was a key piece of the Bobcat aerial attack, catching nine passes for 117 yards and four touchdowns. Fullback Cooper Arnold also added 116 yards and a score on the ground.
Defensively, Peterson pitched in with six solo tackles and five assists. Rylan Mills, four solo tackles and seven assists, and Cooper Arnold, two solo tackles and seven assists, also stayed busy trying to slow the Bulldogs down.
Medina can take another big step towards the playoffs this Friday when it travels to Leakey on Friday. If the Bobcats can win that game, they’ll secure a playoff spot if Eden loses one of its final two games.
