Week Nine Six-Man Team of the Week: Penelope
Six-Man Team of the Week: Penelope Wolverines
A year ago, Aquilla dunked Penelope 70-24 in a game that ended up deciding the second playoff spot in District 12-1A Division I.
This season, Penelope desperately needed a win to stay in the playoff race.
By the slightest of margins, the Wolverines got what they were looking for as they edged Aquilla 44-42 last Friday.
The win is a testament to the work first-year head coach Chris Villarreal and his staff are doing. After starting the season 0-3, Penelope has now won four-straight as it seeks to snap a 13-year playoff drought.
Coming up this Friday, the Wolverines will head to Abbott, who is a heavy favorite for the district title.
If Penelope can’t pull off the upset against the Panthers, the final playoff spot in the district will come to a winner-take-all showdown between the Wolverines and Coolidge in the regular season finale for both teams.
