4A Team of the Week: Waco Connally Cadets
Down by one to Gatesville with just 14 seconds remaining, Waco Connally needed something special if it was to avoid an upset loss in its district opener.
The Cadets decided that their best chance was to get one of their best players the ball in space. It was the perfect decision.
Three-star running back Kiefer Sibley turned a simple screen pass from quarterback Jarrett Shephard into a 52-yard touchdown as time expired giving Connally a miracle 35-29 win over Gatesville.

Sibley’s talent had been on display for all to see the entire game. He finished with 286 yards on the ground and three touchdowns to go along with his 71 yards receiving. In all, he accounted for 85% of Connally’s total offensive yardage.
It was a much-needed win for the Cadets following a three-game losing streak to end non-district play. They’ll now have a bye week before travelling to Salado on Oct. 20 as they look to continue their quest for their second-straight district title.
