Week Ten 4A Team of the Week: San Elizario
4A Team of the Week: San Elizario Eagles
It hadn’t exactly been the season San Elizario would have envisioned heading into last Friday. The Eagles were just 1-7 and had only scored seven total points in their first three district games.
Their struggled looked set to continue as they trailed Irvin 20-7 at halftime.
However, San Elizario’s players delivered the second half they needed. The Eagles outscored Irvin 18-0 after the break to earn a 25-20 victory. That win moved them above Irvin in the district standings and secured them their first playoff berth in three years.
@SanEliFB takes the win vs Irvin 25 – 20 and earned their ticket towards the state playoffs. Amazing energy from the fans at the Eagle Stadium!@SanElizarioISD @Fchavezeptimes #WeAreSanEli #DaleSanEli pic.twitter.com/rEkm8h5mUl

Zamar Vargas was San Elizario’s workhorse on the night. He rushed for 245 yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries. The Eagle defense also had a big game as Vargas, Freddy Garcia, and Andrew Cedillo all had interceptions.

San Elizario played for ten straight weeks, so the Eagles will now have their bye week this week. They’ll play Brownwood, who has locked up the 2-4A Division I title, in the bi-district round in two weeks.
