1. Texas A&M — Last Week: 1 (7-2)

We must all accept the harsh reality that no Texas team will represent the CFP this year. After the Aggies were named the fourth seed in the playoff, Kevin Sumlin choked in an easy one against Mississippi State 35-28.

The fifth year coach has a nasty habit of closing seasons with a whimper rather than a bang, dropping three-of-five games last season. Quarterback Trevor Knight injuring his throwing shoulder during regulation should be monitored closely; as the unexpected surprise of the Aggie offense, his loss as snap-caller would be a blow to a unit averaging 37.2 points per game.

2. Houston — Last Week: 3 (7-2)

The Tom Herman farewell tour is drawing to a close — a greatest hits package that contained some unwanted new tunes in losses to Navy and SMU. Cougars have two weeks before their highly touted matchup against Louisville; the game was previously believed to have CFP implications for the Cougars, but may punch the crucial ticket for the Cardinals to make the playoffs. Houston’s season defining win could be by standing in Louisville’s path, botching postseason aspirations.

3. UT — Last Week: 5 (5-4)

For the tenth week of the 2016 season, Charlie Strong clocked into work, and completed his Austin shift without getting sacked. The third year coach is the feline on his ninth life — inexplicably extending his coaching life long after death. In this week’s story of resurrection, the Longhorns piled on 45 points against Texas Tech, lead by Big 12 leading rusher D’Onta Foreman’s explosive 341 rushing yards — the third most in school history; the win marked Foreman’s tenth straight 100-yard rushing game, and moved within a game of Earl Campbell’s all-time record for most consecutive 100-yard games.

4. TCU — Last Week: 7 (5-4)

The Horned Frogs looked like a Christian University condemning Baylor for all of their sins. After a brief quarterback controversy last week in which Kenny Hill was benched, the A&M transfer offered a very balanced effort, connecting with seven different receivers for over 20 yards. The real success was found on the ground; the team accounted for 431 rushing yards highlighted by Kyle Hicks 192 yards and five touchdowns.

5. Baylor — Last Week: 2 (6-2)

The first indicator that things weren’t going right for Baylor this weekend was when I found a copy of Art Briles’ book  finding a copy of Art Briles book “Beating Goliath” in the bargain bin at Half Price Books.

Don’t think there will be many sequels anytime soon.

The second sign was the Bears wearing black unis to allegedly protest the apparent “witch hunt” the school has been subjected to over the Title IX findings.

Next, every player will wear a “9” on the field.

Karma was a cruel mistress as TCU punished Baylor for their indiscretions. Ever since the Wallstreet Journal published scathing finds of malpractice and unethical behavior within the program, the Bears have been defanged — the distractions of controversy finally catching up to the program. Things don’t get much easier next weekend in a Big 12 showdown with streaking Oklahoma.

6. Texas Tech — Last Week: 4 (4-5)

7. UTSA — Last Week: 8 (5-4)

8. SMU — Last Week: 6 (4-5)

9. UNT— Last Week: 9 (4-5)

10.  UTEP — Last Week: 10 (3-6)

11. Texas State — Last Week: 11 (2-6)

12. Rice Last Week: 12 (1-8)
