3A Team of the Week: Jefferson Bulldogs
While Jefferson and Tatum were ready to complete their duel for the District 6-3A Division I title last Friday, the weather did not cooperate.
The Bulldogs were up 10-0 in the second quarter when the game was forced to be postponed until the following Saturday afternoon due to storms.
After getting a night’s rest, Tatum came roaring back, sending the game to overtime with the score tied at 22 once proceedings resumed.
In overtime, Jefferson struck first as quarterback Chris Bowman bulldozed over a Tatum defender on his way to the end zone for a five-yard score. Bowman then repeated his act on the two-point conversion to give Jefferson a 30-22 lead.
Cole Watson answered for Tatum with a five-yard touchdown run, but the Bulldog defense stood strong on the ensuing two-point conversion, stopping the Eagles to seal a 30-28 win and the District 6-3A Division I title.

Aside from Bowman’s overtime heroics, Luke McMullen also had a big game on the ground with 143 rushing yards, while Bulldog quarterback EJ Burns added 153 passing yards and a score.
Fresh off its momentous win over Tatum, Jefferson will wrap up its regular season this Thursday against Sabine before embarking on its second-straight playoff run.
