Last fall, Ingleside had a rare down year, finishing 2-8 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
This fall, the Mustangs are right in the thick of a playoff race where six teams are competing for the final three playoff spots in District 16-4A Division II.
That meant there was a lot on the line as Ingleside took on London last Thursday. The Mustangs entered the contest at 2-2 in district, while London was 3-1.
It did not disappoint. After London tied the game at 28 with just over three minutes to go, the Mustangs marched down the field into field goal range. That set up a 32-yard game-winning field goal by Preston Olivarez as time expired to give Ingleside a crucial 31-28 victory.
“Our kids competed for four quarters, trusted one another, and continued to fight through adversity,” Ingleside head coach Travis Chrisman said.“It was a complete team effort, and I was proud of the way our players represented Ingleside Mustang Football.Every game matters at this point in the season and earning a win against a quality London team gives us tremendous momentum and keeps us in the hunt for a playoff bid.”

The Mustangs did a lot of their damage on the ground with Kasen Cofield (104 rushing yards, two touchdowns) and Aaron Flores (111 rushing yards, one touchdown) both clearing the century mark. Defensively, Jack Techur also had a pick-six.
After this weekend’s results, second through seventh place in District 16-4A Division II is separated by just one game.
Ingleside is currently tied for second at 3-2, but the Mustangs will look to take another step towards securing a playoff spot when they travel to winless Grulla on Friday.
