1A Team of the Week: Bronte Longhorns
Bronte head coach Bryce Meador will admit his Longhorns had a pretty tough non-district slate. And even though they finished it just 1-5, it appears as if it was all part of the plan.
The Longhorns were certainly prepared for district play when it rolled around this week as they edged Loraine in a 62-61 thriller. It was an impressive result considering that just a year ago, the Bulldogs 45’d the Longhorns.
“We had a game plan to ground and pound offensively and then knew we had to get a big stop somewhere and both of those played out in our favor,” Meador said. “Longhorn grit and tenacity persevered and the kids’ mental toughness played a vital role in winning the game.”
Cole Knight was Bronte’s do-it-all player offensively on the night. He finished with a staggering 335 yards and four touchdowns on 43 carries. He also caught two passes for five yards.
Defensively, Raymond Williams finished with six solo tackles and 12 assists, but most importantly he came up with the big stop Meador was looking for. It was his forced fumble that eventually allowed the Longhorns to take the lead.
Bronte will be on a bye this week to regroup ahead of their final three games of the regular season. When the Longhorns return to action, they’ll be at home against Blackwell on October 25.
