Hebron just needed a win over Flower Mound to wrap up its third consecutive playoff berth.
But by halftime, it looked like a lost cause. The Hawks trailed 34-7.
They cut into the Flower Mound lead some, but it was still 41-21 with five minutes to go.
Then came the miracle. After a touchdown with 3:34 left, the Hawks recovered the ensuing onside kick. Less than a minute later, Brady Brock had found Jaxon Harris for a ten-yard touchdown to make it a 41-35 game.
The Hawks then recovered another onside kick, and Brock capped off the unbelievable sequence with a five-yard touchdown run with 1:13 to go. It was the final score in a 42-41 victory for the Hawks.
“The most impressive thing about our team’s performance was their willingness to not give up,” Hebron Head Coach John Towels III said. “They left the mistakes of the first half behind and executed in the fourth quarter. Hawk Pride Never Dies!”
Brock led the Hawk offense all night, finishing with 243 passing yards and two touchdowns as well as another 103 yards and two scores on the ground. Hudson Kyser, Connor Vary and Harris all had touchdown receptions, while Elisha Gilmore added a rushing score. Ridge Lias also had a passing touchdown for the Hawks.
With the win, Hebron is now 5-4 and 4-2 on the season. The Hawks will hit the road for their final regular season game when they play a Braswell team fighting for a playoff spot this Friday.
